# Every Cummins standby generator model

All 35 models we sell, from the 13kW air-cooled unit that covers a small home to the
200kW diesel sets that back up a building. Ratings, footprints and available voltages, with
no marketing in the way. We are an authorized Cummins dealer, so this is the catalog we
 actually quote from.

## Which range am I looking at?

The lineup splits into three groups, and the split is not arbitrary — it decides the
footprint, the noise, the warranty and roughly the price.

Air-cooled, 13kW to 20kW. One enclosure size across all three. Runs at 3600
rpm. Five year limited warranty. This is the residential range, and for most Dallas–Fort
Worth homes the 20kW is the answer.

 Liquid-cooled RS-series, 25kW to 150kW. Turns at 1800 rpm instead of 3600,
which is most of why a 30kW liquid-cooled set is quieter than a 20kW air-cooled one despite
making half again as much power. Two year base warranty. Available single or three phase.

Diesel, 20kW to 200kW. For sites with no gas supply, or where a run-time
guarantee has to be independent of the utility. Needs a tank and a fuel plan.
[The fuel comparison covers when that is worth it](https://utselectricpros.com/guides/natural-gas-vs-propane-vs-diesel).

## Air-cooled QuietConnect: 13kW to 20kW

Every unit in this group shares the same 34.1 x 36 x 27.3 inch enclosure, the same 999cc
V-twin engine, the same 65 dB(A) at 23 feet, and a five year / 2,000 hour limited warranty.
The only thing that changes across the three is output.

Cummins air-cooled standby range. Single phase, natural gas or propane, field selectable.

| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| RS13A | 13kW | 34.1x36x27.3 | 120/240 1Ph |

| RS20AE | 20kW | 34.1x36x27.3 | 120/240 1Ph |

The 20kW units are rated 20kW on propane and 18kW on natural gas. That derate is real, it is
published, and it is the single most common thing a competing quote leaves out.
[Size it against your actual air conditioning load](https://utselectricpros.com/sizing-calculator) rather
 than against square footage.

## Liquid-cooled RS-series: 25kW to 150kW

These are for large homes with several air conditioning systems, properties with a well and a
shop, and small commercial buildings. There is no natural gas derate anywhere in this range
 — the nameplate rating is what you get on either fuel. Two year standby base warranty,
 with extended terms available.

Three-phase sets are configured to your service voltage, so we quote them against the site
rather than selling them off a shelf.

## Diesel: 20kW to 200kW

Diesel makes sense when there is no gas main to tie into, when the run-time guarantee has to
survive a gas interruption as well as an electrical one, or when code requires on-site fuel.
The trade is a tank, a fuel contract and a fuel-polishing habit.

## Where these numbers come from

Ratings, dimensions and voltage configurations on this page come from the Cummins model
bulletin and the per-model specification sheets, cross-checked against the dealer price sheet
we quote from. Where a sub-base fuel tank changes the overall height, the figure shown is the
installed height including the tank, not the base set alone.

Prices are published on every model page. What a page cannot tell you is what your property
needs — that comes from the gas meter, the panel, the distance between them and the air
conditioning load. [Here is how installed cost actually breaks down](https://utselectricpros.com/pricing).

Cheapest way to narrow this down: run
[the sizing calculator](https://utselectricpros.com/sizing-calculator) first, then compare only the two or
three models it returns. Starting from the full list is how people end up buying more
generator than their gas meter can feed.

## Questions about the range

### What sizes do Cummins home standby generators come in?

Air-cooled Cummins QuietConnect units come in 13kW, 17kW and 20kW. Above that the range moves to the liquid-cooled RS-series at 25, 30, 36, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 125 and 150kW, and to diesel from 20kW to 200kW. For a typical Dallas–Fort Worth home with one or two air conditioning systems, the answer is almost always 20kW.

### What is the difference between the RS20A and the RS20AC?

Both are 20kW air-cooled units in the same enclosure and the same 34.1 x 36 x 27.3 inch footprint. The AC variant is the configuration we fit most often in DFW because of how it handles air conditioning startup. The practical difference is in what it will start, not in size or fuel.

### Do Cummins generators produce less power on natural gas than on propane?

On the air-cooled 20kW units, yes — they are rated 20kW on propane and 18kW on natural gas. The 13kW and 17kW units are equal on both fuels. On the liquid-cooled RS-series from 25kW up there is no natural gas derate at all: the nameplate rating is the same on either fuel. That difference matters more than most buyers expect. [Full comparison here](https://utselectricpros.com/guides/natural-gas-vs-propane-vs-diesel).

### How much space does a Cummins standby generator need?

The air-cooled 13kW, 17kW and 20kW units share one footprint: 34.1 x 36 x 27.3 inches. The RS25 is 72 x 34 x 45.5 inches, the RS30 through RS40 are 94 inches long, and the RS50 through RS100 are 118.7 x 40 x 58.3. Add 18 inches of clearance from the building to meet NFPA 37, plus whatever your city or HOA requires for the property line.

### Is the Cummins warranty the same across the range?

No, and it is worth knowing before you compare quotes. The air-cooled 13kW, 17kW and 20kW units carry a five year / 2,000 hour limited warranty. The liquid-cooled RS-series from 25kW up carries a two year standby base warranty with extended options available. RA-series automatic transfer switches carry their own two year warranty. [What each one actually covers](https://utselectricpros.com/warranty).

### Does Cummins make a three-phase standby generator?

Yes, from the RS25 up. Three-phase configurations are available in 120/208 and 120/240 across the range, with 277/480 added from the RS36 up. Air-cooled units are single phase only. Three-phase sets are configured to your service voltage, so they are quoted rather than sold from the shelf. [Commercial work is here](https://utselectricpros.com/commercial-electrical).

## Not sure which one fits?

Tell us the air conditioning tonnage and we can usually name the model on the phone. The
survey confirms it, and costs nothing.
