The generator most coaches are built around. 4,000W Gasoline 120V · 33.3A 30A Onan is the genset the RV industry standardized on, which has a practical consequence beyond brand preference: parts, filters and service documentation are available everywhere, and any competent RV shop in the country has worked on one. That is worth real money the first time something fails three states from home. At 4,000 watts this unit will run one 13,500 BTU rooftop air conditioner plus lights, converter and small appliances. Air conditioning is almost always the deciding load in a coach, and the surge at startup - not the steady draw - is what sets the requirement. Installation into a coach depends on the chassis: whether a generator bay already exists, how the fuel pickup is arranged, and how exhaust is routed. Installation into a coach is separate and depends entirely on the chassis - whether there is an existing generator bay, how the fuel pickup is arranged, and what the exhaust routing looks like. ### Will the 4KYFA-6747 run my RV air conditioning? At 4,000 watts it will run one 13,500 BTU rooftop air conditioner plus lights, converter and small appliances. Rooftop air conditioners draw a large surge on startup, so the practical limit is usually the starting load rather than the running load. A soft-start module on the AC changes that math considerably and is often cheaper than moving up a generator size. ### What fuel does the 4KYFA-6747 use? Gasoline. It draws from the coach gasoline tank, so there is nothing extra to fill. ### Is the 4KYFA-6747 CARB compliant? No. This model is not CARB compliant and cannot be sold new into California or CARB-aligned states. For Texas use that is not a restriction, but it is worth knowing if you may resell the coach across state lines. ## Similar gasoline gensets ### [Cummins 2.8HGLAA-8311](https://utselectricpros.com/rv-generators/onan-2-8hglaa-8311) RV genset · Gasoline Ships to your door CARB compliant Price $4,436.53 Equipment price. Without onboard generation the air conditioning, the microwave and the converter all stop when you leave the plug behind. ### Why it becomes urgent Summer travel in Texas means the coach air conditioner is the load that decides whether the trip is comfortable. ### Who buys it Motorhome and coach owners running Onan QG and QD gensets. ## Before you buy the 4KYFA-6747 The questions that decide whether this is the right machine, answered properly rather than in a sentence on a product page. - [What fuel should I be running?](https://utselectricpros.com/guides/natural-gas-vs-propane-vs-diesel) Gasoline, propane and diesel each change runtime and storage. - [Would a permanent standby suit me better?](https://utselectricpros.com/generators) A portable is manual and refueled by hand.
