Financing your generator

What to watch for
Deferred-interest and zero-percent promotional offers are common in home improvement, and they are not free. The lender charges the contractor a substantial fee to fund them, and that fee has to come from somewhere — usually the project price. A straightforward fixed-rate loan is frequently the cheaper outcome for the customer even though the advertised rate looks worse.

Paying outright
If you are paying cash, the equipment price is the published price and the installation price is whatever the written quote says. There is no cash discount to negotiate, because there is no financing cost baked in to remove.
Questions
Will checking my rate hurt my credit?
No. The prequalification is a soft pull. A hard inquiry only happens if you accept an offer and proceed with the loan.
Can I finance just the installation and pay cash for the equipment?
Usually yes. Lenders generally fund the total project, but the split is flexible. We can structure the invoice to match how you want to pay.
Are there rebates or tax credits for a standby generator?
Generally no. Standby generators do not qualify for federal residential clean energy credits, which apply to solar, storage and certain efficiency upgrades. Be sceptical of anyone advertising a generator tax credit — if your situation is unusual, ask your tax advisor rather than your contractor.
